Hydropneumatic powerhouse
Initial situation
Our client in the packaging technology sector required a pressing solution for a very confined installation space. The biggest challenge was that, due to the machine’s geometry, the force had to be redirected by 90°. At the same time, the aim was to avoid the need for an additional hydraulic power unit in order to keep costs, space requirements and maintenance efforts to a minimum.
Objective
The aim was to develop a compact and high-performance pressing solution capable of reliably generating high pressing forces despite severely limited space. The force was to be flexibly redirected by 90° and optimally adapted to the existing machine geometry.
At the same time, the solution was to be operated directly from the existing compressed air network and require no additional hydraulic power unit.
Our solution
We developed a hydropneumatic power unit that operates directly from the existing standard compressed air network at 6–8 bar and generates pressing forces of up to 42 kN or approx. 4,200 kg – without the need for an additional hydraulic power unit.
A key component of the solution was the 90° force deflection. This allowed the available installation space to be utilised optimally and the system to be easily integrated into the existing machine design. The high flexibility in force transmission is a major advantage of hydropneumatic technology and was a decisive factor in the success of this project.
The benefits for our customer
• Pressing forces of up to 42 kN with compressed air supply
• 90° force deflection for use in confined installation spaces
• No additional hydraulic power unit required
• Space and cost savings due to the elimination of the hydraulic power unit
• Easy integration without the need to redesign the existing system
• Temperature-independent force thanks to an integrated compensation piston
• Also available in an FDA-compliant version with food-grade oil
